Library Becomes a Maker Space

The Wirt County Library has been undergoing some changes to create a new environment that people are starting to enjoy. Along with the new paint job and resources, the library now gives students and people around the community a chance to get crafty and create fun projects.

At least once a month the craft group meets up and does many different types of crafts. So far, they have made Burlap wreaths, Modpodge photo signs, and ornaments. Their next crafts will be table runners and hand knitted scarves.

Anyone in the community is allowed to come to these craft nights. There are sign ups on the library Facebook page or in the library at the front desk.

This opportunity is now being given to students. Every Friday, “maker sessions” will be set up for students during their hour lunch to come and make crafts. This maker session will involve crafts, electronics, engineering, and robotics.

“I look forward to expanding this project to help students become more creative. We’re getting ready to start an afterschool program for middle school students involving the same things. This will start after the new year,” Mrs. Oldfield stated.

This is the start to something great! Giving kids and people from the community an opportunity to craft is something that Wirt County needs.

The next craft opportunity will be Friday December 16, 2016 during the hour lunch.
